Stiegl Sonnenkönig VII Scotch Ale
Stiegl Sonnenkönig VII Scotch Ale
It is well known that beer and whiskey are not entirely unrelated. Brewing and distilling begins with refined grain - with malt. In the malt house at Stiegl-Gut Wildshut, Stiegl's creative master brewer Markus Trinker finds the best prerequisites for producing special malts for both. The idea of working with whiskey malts over a beer wasn't an obvious one, but it was in the malt store. Following the inspiration, a wooden barrel-aged Scotch Ale with a mighty 12.5% vol was ultimately created using special peat malt. Alcohol.
The beer rarities from the Stiegl brewery in the “Sonnenkönig” series are always being re-created as vintage editions and always presented in autumn. The seventh edition of the “Sun King” is a scotch ale matured in a rum barrel - a beer style whose origins go back to the 19th century in the Scottish city of Edinburgh. The top-fermented strong beer is characterized by the use of peat malt, which provides the specific aromas. The peated barley malt for the "Sun King VII" comes from the brewery's own malt house at the Stiegl-Gut Wildshut. For this, the moistened brewing malt was smoked over glowing peat briquettes of local origin for several hours. The smoky and earthy aromas that it has absorbed give the beer its special note.
The "Sun King VII" is a festive drink and presents itself to the beer connoisseur in noble, shining amber, slightly opal and with restrained foam in the glass. "Our new 'Sun King' offers Scottish-looking peat nuances in the initial taste, is velvety soft on the tongue and has a strong character in the finish with a delicate bitterness in the finale," says Stiegl creative brew master Markus Trinker, describing his latest creation and adds: "The peat malt and the long one Maturation in pre-filled rum barrels from Barbados gives this powerful strong beer its intense variety of aromas. This is shown in a fruit fan made of banana, peach and dates and is accompanied by a caramel-like, smoky rum heart note. "And so the" Sun King VII "is the ideal dessert companion for the upcoming festive season, because it goes well with sweet delicacies such as Sachertorte, roasted almonds and marzipan as well as red mold cheese. And the new beer specialty is also ideally suited as a "cigar beer" for enjoying a cigar after dinner.
